Unique world-class bioinformatics courses have been completed in Kazakhstan

The program is headed by Professor Andrea Zuccolo, a renowned expert in genomics and bioinformatics with extensive international experience. His professional career includes work at the University of Pisa (Italy), KAUST University (Saudi Arabia), and more than six years at the University of Arizona (USA), where he conducted research and headed the bioinformatics analysis group at the Institute of Genomics. In 2025, Professor Zuccolo joined the team at the International Campus of Kozybayev University.

Kozybayev University has organized unique courses on functional genomics and bioinformatics with a focus on the use of third-generation technologies. The project is being implemented for the first time in Kazakhstan, combining best practices, modern technologies, and renowned global experts in accordance with international standards.

the Autumn School of Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics

North Kazakhstan University named after Manash Kozybaev invites students, teachers, researchers, doctoral students and undergraduates to take part in the Autumn School of Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics, which will be held October 20-24, 2025 in Petropavlovsk.

The school is supported by the Center for Agricultural Competence of the NKU and it is the first event of this level in Kazakhstan dedicated to modern technologies for analyzing and annotating genomes. Participants will have a unique opportunity to undergo training under the guidance of international specialists and acquire practical skills in working with real sequencing data.

"Achievements in the field of genetics and breeding" Republican Conference of Kazakhstan Society of Geneticists and Breeders (KOGiS)

On March 12-13, 2025 the conference "Advances in Genetics and Breeding" - Republican Conference of the Kazakhstan Society of Geneticists and Breeders (KOGiS) was held on the basis of Nazarbayev University (NU) in Astana. The organizers of the conference are the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NAS RK) and National Laboratory Astana. The initiator of the Republican Public Association (RPA) "Kazakhstan Society of Geneticists and Breeders" (RPA "KOGiS") was Academician Turuspekov Yerlan Kenesbekovich, with the support of an initiative group of scientists. The conference was attended by about 100 leading Kazakhstani scientists in the field of human genetics, genetics and breeding of animals, plants and microorganisms.

International Scientific Conference on Plant Biology and Biotechnology (ICPBB 2024)
